Life with a new baby

Beautiful baby Amelia was born on June 11th, weighing in at 9lbs, 1oz.

It's been about a month now and things are coming together.  I lost all but 5lbs of my baby weight within 2 weeks of giving birth and started my new training program the following week.  I'm doing weight training 4 days per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) and even have a diet plan to follow.  I'm definitely LOVING having a personal trainer!  It's by far the best investment I've ever made into my health and wellness.

This week was my first full week training on my own and following the new diet plan.  It's been going really well, although I think I'm going to have to add some weight for next week.  The main thing I've noticed with the diet plan is that I'm eating less fruit and more starchy stuff... and a LOT more food than I was previously eating!  But you need a lot of calories to build muscle, which is what I'm aiming for at this point.

Purpose

I created this blog as a tool to keep myself motivated as I head into a new chapter in my life.  I'm currently 31 weeks pregnant (due May 26th) and am planning on using this blog to chart my progress towards my post-pregnancy goal of getting into the best shape of my life - and staying there!  I would also love to hear from others who are in the same situation and working towards similar goals.

I have worked towards this goal in the past and was starting to see some definition on my abs, but I hit a plateau and after hearing a lot of conflicting information on how to break out of the plateau, I wound up hitting a wall and just giving up.  So I started this pregnancy about 25lbs heavier than I was at my peak, and the pregnancy pounds have just kept piling on.

I'm ready for a change, and this blog is going to help me achieve that.  My plan is to set up a workout and diet program with a personal trainer and IFBB Pro in town named Jeni Briscoe.  That way I only have one source of information coming at me, and it's from a source I trust.  I will be working towards competing in the figure category at the Northern Classic amateur bodybuilding show in June 2012.  Whether or not this actually happens will depend on a lot of variables, but it seems like a good goal to start with.
